“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.” — Louis L’Amour
As soon as I read this quote said by Louis L’Amour, I immediately connected with this. This quote is particularly inspiring to me. Personally speaking, society creates pressures that many people feel as though they must follow. My parents always told me you can do anything you put your mind to. But, with that comes hard work and telling myself I can never just sit back and wait for something to happen. Ever since I was little, I have to be the person to go the extra mile and put my all in regardless of the task I am given.
It is a very competitive world out there. In my opinion, Louis L’Amour is telling the world that it’s one thing to have ideas and dreams to look forward to and accomplish, but actions must be done in order to accomplish that. Louis L’Amour is telling us to always get our thoughts and ideas laid out but when that is done take the action and follow through with it to accomplish those goals.
This relates to everything in life whether that be academic, social or everyday life as well. Whether it be in class if I need to go over the subject matter, I have always been the type of person to stay after class to go over the subject again. Also, whether it be applying to jobs, researching as much as I can about a company will prepare me as much as possible. Sometimes it can be scary to put yourself out there to make things happen. I learned it’s about becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable. We all have plans and ideas for our lives that relate to the future. My parents have always instilled in me to go out into the world and take action myself to accomplish something and that is exactly what I have always listened to. Everyday, I am continuously learning that this world we live in is competitive. If I want something to happen, I cannot sit back and wait for something to fall into place. Going the extra mile and taking action to accomplish my goals is ultimately the first step in making my goals and dreams a reality.
