Dear Mom and Dad,
I am absolutely loving Tel Aviv so far. There is nothing not to like! Try to picture this imagery in your head. I am sitting on the beach right now and it is a sunny day. The sun is shining, the music is playing, the ocean waves are crashing, and everybody is smiling. Tel Aviv operates differently than we’re used to in America. Monday-Thursday everything open, Friday afternoon and Saturday most restaurants and stores are closed so the city becomes quieter because of Shabbat and Sunday everything opens up again. A big difference here is the people and how welcoming they are. I have never seen so many inclusive and inviting people all in one place. There are many restaurants surrounding the beach. The food is a whole other conversation! There are also so many different restaurants in Tel Aviv it is easy to not even repeat them. I haven’t had a bad meal yet! The restaurants here have everything you can imagine, and it is all so fresh. My favorite things are the tomatoes and every tomato is so plump and delicious. I recently have been going to the beach more. My favorite spots are Calypso and LALA Land. I often find myself spending all day at the beach and even staying until the sun goes down because the view is just perfect. Being in Tel Aviv makes me feel very free. The boardwalk is filled with people walking, biking, jogging, and hanging out. Being in Tel Aviv is one of the greatest feelings. The sun has been shining this past week everyday. I usually have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning but because it is so nice out and beautiful, I jump out of bed every morning to get my day started. Also, close to the beach is the shuk. It is an outdoor market with shopping and food vendors. It gets crowded so it’s better to go earlier in the day. I wish you both were here right now to experience this. It is also so much fun interacting with the people who live in Tel Aviv. I love asking them questions about their lives here and everybody who lives here has nothing but the most amazing things to say about it. The people who live in Israel are so proud to be here. This semester abroad is the most incredible time I have had so far in my entire life. I can’t wait to take it all in as I finish these last 3 months. Israel is truly magical and I am so lucky to be here.
Love,
Jamie
